This website is the place where you will find the latest news and information about our Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP) for the community of Newent and the surrounding area (the Civil Parish of Newent).
In May 2018, Newent Town Council set up a working group to begin the process of making a Neighbourhood Development Plan. That NDP Working Group held consultations and a launch meeting and went on to form a fifteen strong Steering Group. Many of its members are drawn from the wider community and a number of town councillors are active within the group. We usually meet monthly, with more detailed work being carried out by smaller working groups. In order to achieve the robustness needed for a policy document of equal statutory weight to the District’s Local Plan, the evidence gathered and the policies drawn up have to withstand critical scrutiny.
The Newent NDP Steering Group is funded through a government grant to cover expenses such as promotional material, consultations and professional expertise in policy writing. Newent Town Council also contributes to items not covered by the government’s grant.
We are keen to hear from you – whether it is a particular view you hold on how the community should develop, or if you can help with one of the ‘themes’ to develop specific policies, or as a member of the Steering Group – please get in touch. This is about our community.
